Regulating Tobacco
30% of 15 year olds regularly smoke and many will continue to be lifelong smokers. The Government target is to reduce smoking among 11-15 year olds to 9% or less by 2010.
On 1st October 2007, the law changed, making it illegal to sell tobacco (even from a vending machine) to anyone under the age of 18 (previously this was 16). The maximum fine is £2500.
