Live Life Smoke Free
A new campaign has been launched in the Havant, Gosport, Fareham and Rushmoor areas to promote the smoke free message in our communities. Live Life Smoke Free! aims to increase awareness of the benefits of smoke free environments and of smoke free homes and cars in particular.
Using football, sports and leisure clubs as a welcome partnership, we aim to limit exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke and reduce the prevalence of smoking amongst people in the Havant, Fareham, Gosport and Rushmoor areas.
It’s not only Havant and Waterlooville FC, Gosport Borough FC and Aldershot Town FC, who are promoting the benefits. Being embraced by football and sports clubs around the area, the message of tackling smoking is now reaching many new people who are learning first hand that it is not just your health and financial situation that improves, but your physical and mental performance too.
Smoke Free Hampshire and Isle of Wight is co-ordinating this campaign with local partners including:
- Havant Borough Council
- Fareham Borough Council
- Gosport Borough Council
- Rushmoor Borough Council
- Quit4Life, the local NHS Stop Smoking Service
- Army / Navy
The campaign is funded by the Department of Health.
Our local project workers are:

Rushmoor – Sheila Wills: sheila.wills@hampshire.nhs.uk
Live Life Smoke Free Campaign Launch
The Live Life Smoke Free campaign was launched at Aldershot Town FC’s EBB Stadium on 14 March 2009.
Aldershot Town FC Community Officer Kirk Wheeler presented Smoke Free Hampshire & IOW Co-ordinator, Sarah Preece, with a club shirt signed by all the players. This will be put into a prize draw for anyone from the Rushmoor area who quits smoking over the next few months through Quit4Life, the local NHS Stop Smoking Service.
The Live Life Smoke Free campaign was also launched in the South East Hants area at the Havant and Waterlooville FC Westleigh Park ground on 4 April 2009.
The Havant and Waterlooville team wore shirts for the warm up before the match with the Live Life Smoke Free message to show their support for protecting everyone, but especially children and babies, from the dangers of secondhand smoke.
The match ball from the game with Maidenhead, signed by the players, was also presented to Smoke Free Hampshire by the club. Everyone in the Havant area who stops smoking over the next few months with Quit4Life support will go into a draw for the shirt and ball.
