- New Tobacco Control Plan
The Government has
launched a new
Tobacco
Control Plan which sets out its strategy on all aspects of tobacco control
over the next few years. This includes ambitions to reduce smoking
amongst adults to 18.5% or less by the end of 2015 from 21.2% in 2009/10; to
reduce smoking amongst 15 year olds from 15% in 2009 to 12% or less by 2015;
and to reduce smoking in pregnancy from 14% in 2009/10 to 11% by 2015

The Hampshire
and Isle of Wight Tobacco Control Strategy for 2010-13 (available soon) is now
directing activity around young people, smokefree environments and helping
smokers to stop. The action
plan for 2011-12 is available.

As part of the Health Act 2009, tobacco vending
machines will be banned from October 2011.
